Prior to his twenty-five years of judicial service, Judge Cunningham was a well-known prosecutor in the Commonwealth having served as the Second Assistant District Attorney in Bristol County, Chief of the Attorney General’s Office State wide Narcotics and Organized Crime Division and the Third Assistant District Attorney in Plymouth County, prosecuting First Degree Murders, Major Drug Trafficking cases, Sophisticated Organized Crime Wiretap cases, Rapes, Civil Forfeitures and virtually every other type of criminal matter. He served in a management role in each office resolving disputes both internally and externally.
Judge Cunningham recently retired after twenty-five years as District Court Justice, having served as Regional Administrative Justice supervising nine Courts, thirty Judges and over a thousand Court employees. He served twenty-three years as the First Justice of the very busy Taunton Court in its three locations ultimately sitting in a new Courthouse in which he was instrumental in the planning and development of the Court.
During his twenty-five years as a Justice of the District Court hearing Civil and Criminal cases and his fifteen years as a top Prosecutor in the Commonwealth, he resolved not only Court cases but also disputes and issues both internal and external to the Court and Prosecutor’s Offices through his ability to be an excellent listener and problem solver to all parties and he will continue to devote his career to problem solving as a mediator and arbitrator.
